Communiqué of the Emergency Meeting of the OECS Authority (April 12, 2021) Format Monday, April 12, 2021 Approximately, three months following its first Emergency Meeting on the situation with the La Soufrière volcano in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, the OECS Authority, Chaired by the Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister for the Commonwealth of Dominica, met in an Emergency Meeting convened virtually on Monday April 12, 2021. The OECS Authority discussed inter lia, the ongoing explosive eruptions at the La Soufrière volcano in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and the regional response measures in relation to this disaster. Chairman Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit opened the meeting by reassuring the solidarity of the OECS Member States with Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and emphasized the meeting look at the critical needs of the island as well as the ability of Member States of the OECS to provide assistance to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

OECS Authority Holds Emergency Meeting Share this post: The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Authority Monday held an emergency meeting to discuss a regional response to the volcanic situation in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG). Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit of Dominica The meeting took place virtually and in his opening remarks, Chairman of the Authority Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit of Dominica stated that Member States will stand behind the country in its time of need. The Chairman said that Dominica is devoted to helping the people of SVG. The country will accommodate 300 Vincentians and will take care of all evacuees’ expenses, including preparations to receive students who are to be at school.

Bermuda Overseas Missions Virtual Tag Month The Bermuda Overseas Missions [BOM] will be holding the virtual tag month in February “to help support the school children of Malawi achieve their dreams of a decent education.” A spokesperson said, “Bermuda Overseas Missions [BOM] is now in its third year to continue supporting High School Children to attend school. This charity focuses on mentoring youth by taking students from Bermuda to different countries to help construct family homes for needy families. Additionally the charity supports development of education as well as helping communities to be supplied with clean drinking water. “As part of its mission to improve the lives of impoverished families around the world, BOM visited the Mulanje district of Malawi in 2015, 2017 and 2019. During the visit in 2017 while working in the village of Magreta, the group discovered that girls as young 12 and 13 were being married off because families could not afford to educate them.
