Rock County extends operation of overnight warming shelter

February 15, 2021 The Rock County Emergency Operations Center extends operation of it’s emergency warming shelter due to the ongoing dangerously low temperatures. Citizens can get out of the cold during the day by visiting any of the Rock County Libraries or Uptown Janesville – formerly known as the Janesville Mall. Individuals who need emergency shelter overnight, specifically related to the extreme cold can call Rock County Crisis at 757-5025 for access to the Overnight Warming Shelter. The overnight shelter will be open through Saturday.

(Eric Stone/KRBD) Homeless people in Ketchikan now have a new place to sleep during the colder winter months. Ketchikan’s Overnight Warming Center is open for its fourth season in a new, upgraded home. It’s an unassuming A-frame building across from Ketchikan’s American Legion post. At one point, it was a warehouse for the city’s water department. Then a youth-focused nonprofit took it over to use as a community center. And now, it’s providing dry, warm beds for Ketchikan’s homeless population.
