Schools around Oregon are grappling with standardized testing in a pandemic school year.
Next week, thousands of middle and high schoolers around the Portland metro area will return to school buildings for the first time since March of 2020, after Gov. Kate Brown ordered that every public school district in the state needed to provide some face-to-face time with teachers before the end of the school year.Â

Teachers of the Oregon Trail School District recently received a bevy of belated hand-crafted Valentine cards and gifts
Although the Valentine s Day wishes arrived on Thursday, Feb. 18, the sentiment was just as appreciated. I have heard parents talk about how much they appreciate the teachers stepping up to the challenge of teaching during the pandemic, suddenly having to go online with no experience or training. Some parents have told me that they have gained a new respect for teachers, now that they have had to be more involved in their children s education, said librarian Katie Murphy. And I think all of us whether we have kids in school or not have been made aware of how integral teachers are to keeping our society functioning. Oregon Trail and Estacada school district administration lead push for reopening with restrictions amid COVID-19 pandemic
When Estacada kindergarteners began returning to the classroom earlier this week, many students were meeting each other in-person for the first time. I have kids ask, am I going to see so-and-so? They re so excited, Clackamas River Elementary teacher Shellie Adams said prior to the district s kindergarten and first grade students moving to hybrid learning on Monday, Jan. 25. I can t wait for them to see each other.
Schools got new reopening rules Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 19, that eased guidelines enough to allow elementary school students in the metropolitan area to get back to school buildings.
