Miscommunication among a large group of backcountry skiers was a factor that led to an avalanche that killed three Eagle County residents last week near Silverton, according to a final report from the Colorado Avalanche Information Center.

Andy Jessen, 40, who grew up in Hartford, was identified as one of the victims of the avalanche on Thursday by the office of emergency management in San Juan County, Colorado. Jessen graduated from Hartford Central High School in 1999, said town of Hartford Supervisor Dana Haff.
