BELPRE Pandemic-related improvements have been made at the Belpre Senior Center that is now open for limited activities, officials said.
While closed, the center has installed touchless features, such as water fountains, toilets and doors, Manager Bonnie McGown said. Cleanliness is the main goal, she said.
“We’ve been keeping it as clean as we possibly can,” McGowan said.
The Senior Center, at 1614 Washington Blvd., was closed last year after an increase in infections and pandemic restrictions were instituted to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus. The center is managed through the O’Neill Senior Center in Marietta.

“When I heard about all the Covid outbreaks in long-term care homes, I was finishing my final year at U of T studying neuroscience, and I’d recently taken a course on dementia. I wanted to use the knowledge I had. In May, I co-founded SAGE Student Association for Geriatric Empowerment with some fellow students. Our mission was to connect with seniors and staff in long-term care.

The Washington County Commissioners are quietly finishing out the calendar year 2020.
Commissioners met Wednesday morning for a short business meeting to handle additional appropriations for capital projects, salaries and life insurance.
An annual lease agreement between the O’Neill Center and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program was approved.
Commissioner David White said it is for RSVP to have offices in the O’Neill Center.
“That lease has been in place for a very long time,” he said, noting the City of Marietta leases the property to the O’Neill Center for $1 per year, who then leases two offices to RSVP.
