Another loud boom in Syracuse? No need to fear. It was only bomb squad training
Updated Jan 15, 2021;
Syracuse, N.Y. Residents in Syracuse and the eastern suburbs reported hearing a loud boom this morning, but there’s no reason to panic.
The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office’s Bomb Squad is responsible for the loud noise, which residents from Syracuse to Fayetteville reported hearing around 11:15 a.m.
But there are no meteors or fire balls this time around.
The bomb squad was doing training at the Jamesville Quarry, Onondaga County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jon Seeber said.
At the center of the training? A totaled, stripped-out sheriff’s department SUV now being used as a training prop that recently went viral on TikTok by a group of teens who trespassed to film the clip.
