A Fayette County woman is being held in the Westmoreland County Prison after being charged with stealing a Monessen police cruiser and crashing it into a tree early Monday, according to court records. Jamya Dee Avona Leonard, 19, of Uniontown, was charged with receiving stolen property, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and theft by police after, police say, she admitted stealing the cruiser about 3:30 a.m. Police from multiple departments first apprehended Leonard after she was involved in a prior slow-speed pursuit of another vehicle that was reported operating only on three tires and a rim, police said.

Crazy Home Markets New Direct Flights Everyone, It Seems, Wants to Come North

5:59 Realtor Lisa Alsteen shows off the features of a century-old four-bedroom house near the courthouse in Rhinelander. Painted blue on the outside, it has wood floors, a sunny living room, and an inviting porch in front. Alsteen listed the home, located at 133 North Oneida Avenue, on Monday. By midday Tuesday, several potential buyers had already been though for showings. She expected an offer wouldn’t take long. That’s typical these days. Last spring, the demand for Northwoods homes shot skyward, like nothing Alsteen has seen in her 18 years in realty. “All of a sudden, it was just like, everyone wanted to be up here. That’s when our market started to really take off,” she said.

Queen of the 1950 Sled Dog Race

3:07 As the new year of 1948 approached, Wisconsinites were anticipating the State’s Centennial Celebration.  In preparation for this event, the state sports committee sponsored thirteen Winter Sports Carnivals across the state.  The primary purpose of the carnivals was to select young women from around the state to vie for the title of Winter Queen.  Of the thirteen cities selected in December of 1947, Ashland, Antigo, Wausau, and Rhinelander were chosen to represent the Northwoods.  Although the sports committee would finance only the beauty pageant, the cities were encouraged to hold a full slate of sporting events, which most did. The competition that took place at the January 1948 Winter Carnival produced a multi-year champion in youth sled dog racing.  She was an eight-year-old sled dog racer who succeeded in drawing some of the attention away from the beauty pageant.
