End SARS: Fayemi receives panel s report, sets up Citizens Complaints Centre

Daily Post Nigeria Published Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi on Friday, received the final report from the State Judicial Panel of Inquiry into allegation of Human Rights Violation Against Police Officers including Officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and other Persons with an assurance that his government would implement the decisions of the panel to the letter. This came barely two months after the government paid compensation to the first batch of 24 victims as recommended by the panel. The governor, while receiving the report from the Chairman of the Panel, Justice C.I. Akintayo at the conference hall of the Governor’s office, Ado – Ekiti, noted that the outcome of the report was an opportunity for the government to further strengthen its intervention in the promotion and protection of human rights in Ekiti State.

Nigeria Customs in the eye of the storm

Share ON Tuesday, the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges decried last week’s invasion of the popular Oja Oba market in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, by officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), during which they allegedly carted away eight truckloads of rice and money found in the shops of the affected traders. It consequently handed down a two-week ultimatum to the Comptroller-General of the NCS, Hameed Ali,  to return the seized goods to the affected traders, unlock their shops, and return the money taken from the shops. According to the lawmakers, the invasion was in breach of the Customs Act and the Executive Order signed by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2007, which empowers the agency to only impound smuggled goods within 40 kilometres radius to the border.
