Activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) have been suspended indefinitely in Ondo over the clashes between different factions of the union.
Members of the union fought over the control of motor parks on Tuesday, leading to the death of one person.
At a press conference in Akure, the state capital, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu asked NURTW members to stay off parks.
He condemned the “unruly and uncultured” behaviour that led to violent attacks on members and citizens.
The unionists on Tuesday caused pandemonium around Oja Oba, Adesida Road and other parts of Akure, shooting sporadically while residents scampered to safety.

The queues by motorists for petrol grew worse in Abuja and neighbouring states of Nasarawa and Niger on Monday as only few filling stations dispensed the commodity.
But despite the scarcity and queues, which had lingered for several days, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation insisted on Monday that it had enough product to keep the country wet with petrol for about 40 days.
Reacting to the development, oil marketers described the present scarcity was as a tactics deployed by the Federal Government and its agencies in their bid to hike the price of petrol.

Another page was opened in the history of Ondo State on Wednesday, February 24, when Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu (SAN) took the oath for his second term of office. The Senior Advocate of Nigeria earned his right to another four years in Alagbaka Governor’s House with his overwhelming victory in the October 10 governorship election. In that election, Akeredolu garnered 292,830 votes with outright victory in 15 out of 18 LGAs of Ondo and a very respectable performance in the three other councils to emerge victorious. His closest challenger, Eyitayo Jegede of the PDP, was only able to garner 195,791 votes while the his deputy, Agboola Ajayi, who contested on the platform of ZLP, scored only 69,175 votes without winning any local council area.
Ahead of his 56th birthday this Tuesday, February 9th, Ekiti State Governor and Chairman, Nigeria Governorsâ Forum, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, addressed some topical national and regional concerns. Contrary to swirling talks about his presidential bid, he said the 2023 presidential election would eventually sort itself out.
