A Davisburg man has been charged after months of investigations led police to arrest him for a fatal hit-and-run last year.
Steven Fowlow, 52, was arraigned Thursday at 48th District Court for failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death. He was issued a $10,000 cash bond/10% surety.
Fowlow is alleged to have been involved in a hit and run that resulted in the death of Wesley Stamps on Aug. 8. Officials said Stamps was crossing Woodward near Forest Avenue in Birmingham when he was hit.
Investigators used parts at the scene of the accident and surveillance video to determine the make, model and year of the car involved, which led to an extensive search.
Appellate attorney Carole Stanyar spoke after the Michigan Supreme Court declared Altantawi’s statements to police inadmissible. Prosecutors had conceded the teen endured a “custodial interrogation” at his home without being advised of his Miranda rights to an attorney and to remain silent when questioned.
“He’s a juvenile. He’s surrounded by detectives who have basically taken over his home. He’s isolated from family (with) no Miranda warnings.
“The detectives feed him facts, saying that they know this and they know that already. The detectives repeatedly suggest to Muhammad how it happened. He repeatedly says, ‘But I don’t know what happened.’ He finally breaks down crying and says ‘Tell me what you want me to say and I’ll say it.’ That interrogation explains the decisions in this case.”

Pontiac Mayor Deirdre Waterman submitted six overdue campaign statements to the Oakland County Elections Division on April 22.Â
Trachelle C. Young, Esq., Waterman s attorney, told The Oakland Press that it s unfortunate that we are forced to seek redress in the courts on a matter that should be clear as it has been directly addressed by the courts. Mayor Waterman is a history maker and game changer, which has tremendously benefited the Pontiac community, she said. She will continue to stand for justice and equal access to ballots to prevent disenfranchisement and voter suppression tactics and we look forward to our day in court.
