We’re learning just how much you’re protected once you’ve gotten the COVID-19 vaccine. Right now, half of all Oklahoma adults are fully vaccinated. During previous hospitalization waves, hospitals like The University of Oklahoma Medical Center (now OU Health) started to fill up fast with COVID-19 patients. Health officials don’t expect as big a surge this time because of the number of people who have been vaccinated. But they still think the number of hospitalizations will continue to climb.“We’re seeing a doubling of people in the hospital with COVID-19 in the past 10 days or so and a large number of people in intensive care units,” said Dr. Dale Bratzler, OU Health chief COVID-19 officer.Bratzler said the new COVID-19 patients are younger and mostly unvaccinated.
