Radioactive Device Stolen From Work Truck In Sacramento

The stolen device is called a nuclear gauge and contains radioactive amounts of cesium 137, reports CBS13. The sheriff s department responded to the scene to investigate the burglary and notified their bomb squad as well as the FBI about the missing radioactive device. “There’s a lot of kids that play around here, so for something to be out there like that, that’s kind of dangerous,” Diego Juarez, an apartment resident, told CBS13. The nuclear gauge is used at construction sites to shoot beams of gamma rays into the soil to measure density and moisture content. According to engineers, the gauge is not a risk if it is left alone. The engineering firm is offering a reward for its return.
