ABOITIZ Construction, Inc. on Tuesday said it had installed and fabricated 20 tons of pillars to the 109-meter, high-speed FSTR ferry delivered by Austal Philippines Pty. Ltd.
The aluminum vessel is said to be the largest-ever to be constructed in the country. It can transport up to 1,200 passengers and some 404 vehicles.
âOur involvement in this project with Austal proves our commitment to delivering quality outputs,â Aboitiz Construction President, Chairman, and Director Anton Mari G. Perdices said in a statement on Tuesday.
The 20-ton pillars installed by the Aboitiz unit consisted of hollow tubes that support the ferryâs mezzanine.
Austal Philippines launches 118 metre trimaran for Fred.Olsen Express
Austal Philippines has successfully launched Hull 395, Bañaderos Express, for Fred. Olsen Express in Balamban, Cebu, according to the company s release.
The second of two ‘Auto Express 118’ high-speed trimaran ferries ordered by Fred. Olsen Express of the Canary Islands, Bañaderos Express is scheduled for delivery in the second half of CY2021.
Austal Australia delivered the first trimaran (Hull 394) of the two vessel A$190 million contract, the Bajamar Express, in July 2020.
Austal Limited Chief Executive Officer Paddy Gregg said the successful launch was the first to be completed using Austal Philippines’ new floating dry dock, Hercules, procured in 2020.

Shipbuilding group Austal said its Austal Philippines arm has a 109-meter high-speed catamaran ferry to Fjord Line of Norway.
The vehicle-passenger ferry, named FSTR, is said to be the largest aluminum vessel ever constructed in the Philippines. It is currently the largest ferry (by volume) to be constructed by Austal, at any of the company’s shipyards worldwide.
Austal CEO, Paddy Gregg, said, “It’s impressive to see a large high speed ferry like this delivered in the best of times, but for the team to deliver this new vessel during a global pandemic is simply outstanding.”
