Ramona s SkillsUSA Gold Medal winners advance to national competition

Print Four Montecito High School students and one Ramona High student won Gold Medals last month in the SkillsUSA state competition and will advance to the SkillsUSA national competition being held virtually June 14-18. The Montecito students won their awards April 17 in the construction division, with Gold Awards going to students in the high school’s Teamworks, Individual Carpentry categories. The school’s Silver Medals were awarded to the high school Teamworks team and an Electrical Construction Wiring category. At Ramona High, Charlie Dilts won a Gold Medal in the Auto Service category. The following students won Bronze Medals: Robert Lorn Brinker, Diesel Service; Colin Lester, Maintenance and Light Repair; Zachary Steen, Motorcycle Service; and Payge Lafever, Power Equipment.

SHS students getting college credit though Ivy Tech s Indiana College Core program

Sunday, May 02, 2021 Indiana College Core (formerly the Statewide Testing General Education Core) ensures students the ability to earn college credits while still in high school. Through Ivy Tech, Sullivan has 52 students that will be receiving certificates this year. This includes the trades machine, welding and automotive and technical certificates involving more typical academic disciplines. “Forty-seven students have committed to walk through graduation ceremonies,” said Southwest School Corp. superintendent Chris Stitzle. “That is very impressive.” Sullivan High School counselor Katie Couch said that 30 hours of general education credit transfers between public colleges and universities. “It is a great thing for the kids to get college credit while still in high school, “ she said. “Whether they want to go to college or just graduate and get a job, they still get a chance to learn skills that can help them once they graduate from high school.”

Career Center names students of month | News, Sports, Jobs

Apr 27, 2021 The Washington County Career Center honors its April Students of the Month, Montana Brown, Katana Felter, and Zoe Graham. Montana Brown is a Belpre senior enrolled in the Auto Mechanics program. He is the son of Alan Smith and Kelli Brown of Belpre and the grandson of William and Ann Kidder of Belpre. At the Career Center, Brown is a member the SkillsUSA youth organization. He has been on the Career Center’s Honor Roll, Merit Roll and the Energy Bus Driver program, for meeting all three criteria for 3.0 GPA or higher, 95% attendance or higher, and no office referrals.
