Waking Up White Book Study - Racial Equity
This guided ‘book club’ is a 10 week study of Debby Irving’s book Waking Up White and Finding Myself in the Story of Race. The book has been described as a brutally honest, unflinching exploration of race and personal identity, told with heart by a truly gifted storyteller. Learning how to interrupt racism is part of learning how to be an ally for racial equity. Participants will read the book together and reflect on its message while growing personally and in community with others. The group will be led by three members of Light of Christ United Methodist Church in Ballantyne and will meet online, via Zoom. Meetings will be on Friday Mornings from 7:45am until 8:45am, beginning April 16 and ending June 18.
Easter Scavenger Hunt Through Ballantyne
For many churches, creativity has been key throughout the pandemic in 2020 and so far in 2021. Instead of doing the traditional Easter Egg Hunt we have done in past years, this year Light of Christ United Methodist Church is hosting an Easter Scavenger Hunt throughout the Ballantyne area.
The Easter Scavenger Hunt will be on Saturday, March 27. Everyone can start any time between 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at Light of Christ Methodist Church (9106 Bryant Farms Road Charlotte, NC 28277). You will then be given clues involving the Easter story from a Light of Christ volunteer at each stop taking you to seven different places within a 5-mile radius. The Easter Scavenger hunt will end with a sweet treat from Crumbl in Stonecrest. This event is free for all families in the community!
