Winter is over, and for a few months, Portland won’t be blanketed in grey clouds and rain. Many Portlanders will look to take advantage of this limited window of warm air and sunny skies, but If you’re having a hard time deciding what to do or are looking for new ways to get outside, here are some of our favorite activities that get us out of the virtual newsroom to enjoy the weather.
Morgan Troper, Arts & Culture Editor: I got a dog this time last year, so I’ve become very acquainted with the dog parks across Portland. Spending time around a bunch of strangers and their dogs was something that made me a little uncomfortable at the start of the pandemic, but going to the dog park with my Texas Heeler whose name is Jet, after the Paul McCartney and Wings song, naturally has become one of my favorite outdoor pastimes.

The man behind some of Singapore’s buzziest dining concepts wears many hats. Beppe De Vito, founder and owner of il Lido Group, juggles a variety of restaurants ranging from luxe dining destinations Art, Gemma and Michelin-starred Braci, to breezy rooftop bars Levant and Southbridge, to casual restaurant Amò. The dynamic Italian chef certainly seems to have a knack for ideating and executing crowd-pleasing concepts his latest venture is Carne, a joint partnership with chef Mauro Colagreco of three Michelin-starred restaurant Mirazur in France. It ticks all the right boxes in sustainability, a game changer for a restaurant specialising in the icon of the fast-food industry: burgers.
Circumstances may have changed this year, but the vigor Buchholz High School’s math team has for the subject has not. For the 13th time in the past 16 years, the Bobcats once again earned the title as Florida s math team champions. Now, several team members are preparing for the chance to snatch the national title as well.
“So I guess what we did this year worked,” joked team advisor Will Frazer. “In a difficult year where everyone was packing it in, we were grinding it out. If I were anyone else (at the national competition), I wouldn’t want to go against this group.”
