ASHEVILLE - Republican Madison Cawthorn represents a mountainous far western district of North Carolina in Congress where he has co-sponsored just one bill that became law.
The first-term House member is also a massive moneymaking and spending machine who is among the top 2% of 1,419 House candidates in terms of fundraising and disbursements.
Cawthorn, the youngest member of Congress, has raised $1.8 million and spent $1.5 million from Jan. 1 - June 30, more than any other member of Congress from North Carolina, including those having served multiple terms and passed dozens of bills, according to campaign finance reports released July 15.
Those include veteran GOP lawmakers Virginia Foxx and Patrick McHenry, ranking member on the financial services committee.
