FORMER CONTRACT POSTAL WORKER PLEADS GUILTY TO STEALING MAIL

Two Warrensburg residents recently pleaded guilty in federal court to stealing and possessing stolen mail. In a release from the U.S. Attorney office of the Western District, a former contractor working for the U.S. Postal Service pleaded guilty in federal court on Thursday, May 27, to his role in a conspiracy to steal gift cards from the mail. Tyrone V. Read Jr., 27, of Warrensburg, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Roseann Ketchmark to one count of conspiracy to possess stolen mail matter.- Read was employed as a driver for the trucking company that held the contract to transport mail to and from post offices in Grain Valley, Oak Grove, Odessa, and Concordia, Mo. By pleading guilty today, Read admitted that he stole $1,820 in cash and gift cards from the mail of 30 postal customers between Dec. 1, 2019, and May 6, 2020.

Former defendants included Jesse Mendiola, Duane Calvo, Daniel Ding Mesa and Honofre Chargualaf, all of whom were convicted of federal crimes that involved drugs and guns. They shared their stories with current participants of the program and members of the public.

Springfield, MO   A Deepwater, Missouri, man pleaded guilty in federal court today to fraudulently obtaining more than $500,000 in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Brian Ruth, Sr. waived his right to a grand jury and pleaded guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge David P. Rush to a federal information that charges him with one count of wire fraud and two counts of money laundering. By pleading guilty today, Ruth admitted that he applied online in May and June 2020, and received three PPP loans totaling $522,765 for three separate business entities. Each of the loan applications contained materially false statements and included fraudulent supporting documents. Ruth falsely claimed his three businesses were operational and employed numerous individuals in February 2020, when in reality, the businesses had not been open or operational and did not employ any other individuals.

David J. McKay, 42, of Waynesville, Missouri, pleaded guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge David P. Rush to one count of transporting a minor to engage in criminal sexual activity and four counts of sexually abusing a minor. McKay, an Army National Guard First Sergeant, was the youth ministry director for the Religious Services Office at Fort Leonard Wood. By pleading guilty, McKay admitted that he sexually abused four victims, ranging in age from 11 to 17 years old, on dozens of occasions from 2010 to 2017.

David McKay from Waynesville, pleaded guilty to one count of transporting a minor to engage in criminal sexual activity and four counts of sexually abusing a minor. Authorities say the four victims range in age from 11 to 17. Court documents say the abuse happened at Fort Leonard Wood and other places in Pulaski County.
