A 49-year-old Oamaru man is going to jail for exporting, distributing and possessing child sexual abuse publications 4 May 2021
John Ritchie Hellewell was sentenced to four years imprisonment in the Dunedin District Court today.
He was arrested by Customs investigators during a search warrant at his home last November, following a referral from the United States National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children.
Hellewell was distributing abuse imagery to overseas users, and operating as an administrator for at least two trading groups.
He d previously been arrested and charged for similar offending in 2016.

Regional Victorian man charged with possessing child abuse material
A 30-year-old Ballarat man is due to face Melbourne Magistrates Court today (16 April 2021) following an Australian Federal Police (AFP) investigation into an online user uploading child abuse material.
The Victorian Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team (Vic JACET) investigation began in January after the AFP-led Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation (ACCCE) received several reports from the United States National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) regarding a Google account uploading a number of videos containing child abuse material to social media and sharing platforms.
It will be alleged that through Police inquiries the 30-year-old man was linked to the Google account and a warrant was executed at his Golden Point home in regional Victoria yesterday (15 April 2021).

A 59-year-old man from Moreton Bay is expected to face Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on Friday after police investigated reports from the United States National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children that alleged a person suspected to be in Queensland was engaging in sexualised online chats with children located in the Philippines via Facebook.
