Modi, Johnson to also discuss Covid-19 cooperation at meet on May 4
India and the UK will launch a comprehensive ‘Roadmap 2030’ to deepen cooperation over the next decade across five key areas at a Virtual Summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his UK counterpart Boris Johnson on Tuesday.
The areas for further expanding and deepening bilateral cooperation include people-to-people relationship, trade and prosperity, defence and security, climate action and healthcare, per an official release from the Ministry of External Affairs.
“Both leaders will also discuss Covid-19 cooperation and the global efforts to fight the pandemic,’ the release said.
The UK has been helping India to fight the current surge in infections and deaths in the country by supplying essentials such as oxygen equipment and ventilators that have already started arriving.
The 2021 tracker, collated annually by Grant Thornton and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to weigh up the contribution of Indian businesses to the UK economy, found that the number of Indian companies operating in the country grew from 842 in the 2020 tracker to 850 and these firms employed 116,046 people, an increase from 110,793 on the previous year.

Plans afoot to give trade ties a boost via virtual meeting
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson will not visit India next week due to the worsening of the Covid-19 situation. The two nations will instead hold a virtual meeting online, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has said. The dates for the virtual meeting, however, are yet to be finalised.
“In view of the prevailing Covid-19 situation, it has been decided by mutual agreement that the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom will not visit India next week. The two sides will be holding a virtual meeting in the coming days to launch plans for a transformed India-UK relationship,” the MEA spokesperson said in a statement responding to media queries on the visit.

LONDON: Prime Minister Boris Johnson will visit India at the end of April on his first major international tour following the UK s exit from the European Union, Downing Street has announced, as Britain seeks to unlock the opportunities in the strategic Indo-Pacific region.
The announcement of the visit, which had been postponed from a planned Republic Day tour in January due to the escalating COVID-19 crisis in the UK, comes as Johnson launches the conclusions of the UK government s Integrated Review of defence, security, development and foreign policy a post-Brexit policy vision that falls within a wider Global Britain agenda.
