Fears grow around returning to work in poorly-ventilated, ‘windowless cupboards’
Fears are growing over how Covid-secure edit suites are, as staff return to work amid the easing of restrictions.
Chief executive of the UK Screen Alliance Neil Hatton has urged businesses to follow its guidelines post-lockdown as concerns emerge around ensuring workplaces are adequately ventilated.
He said that most windowless edit suites have air conditioning units which circulate rather than bringing in fresh air from outdoors, increasing the risk of infection.
“If editors feel the ventilation is not up to standard then they need to stand up and say something,” Hatton said.

Alex Coxon profiles some outstanding women working in the VFX sector
A recent article in The Guardian spoke about the lack of women, especially senior women in VFX. The facts speak for themselves, as according to the UK Screen Alliance 2018 Workforce Survey, women make up just 27% of the visual effects workforce.
This needs to be improved, and to try to encourage this, we need a celebration of all the women who do so much in, and for the industry, to hopefully inspire others.
So in recognition of International Women’s Day 2021, let’s celebrate women in VFX, those who are really making a difference.

A recent addition to the production team is VFX coordinator, Gabi Kaziukonyte. She gained work experience with Vine FX as a production assistant during the final year of her degree in Film and TV Production. Vine FX then recruited her as VFX coordinator late last year.
At the end of 2020, Vine FX’s editorial department expanded to include VFX editor, Katie Dose. Katie has experience working vendor-side on projects such as
Avenue 5,
Giri/Haji and
The Watch, after a move from client-side where she worked in editorial departments for almost 10 years.
Another recent recruit, albeit not specifically working on the VFX side of the business, is office manager, Leah Chapman, “I am inspired by the work Vine FX achieve with a supportive and collaborative spirit”.
