Norfolk girl makes Christmas Cards for United Helpers residents

OGDENSBURG — When 8-year-old Alexis Haught heard about the COVID-19 outbreak at United Helpers Rehabilitation and Senior Care facility, she knew she wanted to do something to help the residents and employees there. “It’s Christmas time, and with everything going on, I thought it would be nice to write some Christmas Cards,” she said in a press release from United Helpers, adding that over the course of one weekend she created 90 cards. While she wasn’t sure exactly how long it took, Alexis said she spent a “couple hours” each day working on the cards. “It made me feel really happy,” she said.

As of Thursday morning, the number stands at 22. Positive cases since November 22 include 128 residents and 77 staff. The nursing home has a current population of 114. Eighty-four people have recovered. Four are hospitalized. One person at United Helpers Rehabilitation and Senior Care in Canton is hospitalized. Thirty residents and 20 staff have tested positive since November 29.

Dec 21, 2020 The number of deaths linked to a COVID-19 outbreak at a United Helpers nursing home in Ogdensburg rose to 20 on Monday. The organization has been sending regular updates since the outbreak began more than three weeks ago. The latest figures make it among the deadliest outbreaks at a long-term care facility in the North Country.  According to their latest release, 125 residents and 74 staff have tested positive for the virus at the facility since Nov. 22. Six people remain hospitalized. Cases have also risen at United Helpers’ nursing home in Canton. Two residents and three staff have tested positive since last week, bringing the total number of cases to 33.
