EFCC only detained Clerk, lawmaker, Ondo Assembly insists

Punch Newspapers Sections Peter Dada Published 16 March 2021 THE Ondo State House of Assembly on Monday said only two persons in the Assembly were in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission over the allegation of fraud and not four as earlier reported in the media. It was earlier reported that the Clerk of the House, Mr Bode Aladeyelu, a lawmaker, Mr Bankole Felemugudu, representing Akoko South West Constituency, and two other civil servants were detained by the anti-graft agency, but the Assembly said only the Clerk and the lawmaker were detained. Speaking on the development, the spokesman of the House, Gbenga Omole, said the two civil servants were not in the custody of the anti-graft commission.

Share The Ondo State House of Assembly on Monday confirmed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) last week invited and detained a member of the House of Assembly representing Akoko South West I, Hon. Felemu Bankole and four others including the Clerk of the Assembly, Mr. Bode Adeyelu, over a N2.4m allegedly diverted into their personal purse. The Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Hon. Gbenga Omole, who confirmed this while briefing newsmen, said the five men were invited following a petition written to the EFCC by the former Deputy Speaker, Mr Iroju Ogundeji. According to him, the anti-graft agency was acting on the petition over a supposed seminar which the lawmaker and others were billed to attend in Lagos in December 2019 but they did not attend the seminar due to the situation in the country then.

Ondo Assembly holds public hearing on bill against person, gender based violence

TODAY March 8, 2021 The Ondo State House of Assembly on Monday held a Public Hearing on a bill for a law to eliminate violence in private and public life. The bill prohibits all forms of violence against persons and provides for maximum and effective remedies for victims and punishment of offenders and other related matters. Declaring the public hearing open, Mr Bamidele Oloyelogun, the Speaker of the House, said that the bill was meant to prevent all forms of gender based violence in the state. Oloyelogun urged the stakeholders at the hearing to submit their memoranda and promised that their views and opinions would be considered.
