An ex-firefighter with the Odessa Fire Department has admitted to accessing and possessing child pornography.
According to a press release from the United States Department of Justice, Jeremy Lee Barrera,36, admitted in federal court to accessing lewd images of children in an encrypted chat group using his fire station s internet connection.

Barrera is currently in federal custody and is facing up to 20 years in federal prison. A sentencing date has yet to be scheduled.
Investigators discovered two local IP addresses registered to a “Ray Jones” being used to enter an encrypted online group chat whose members were viewing child pornography. The first IP address was registered to OFD Station #2; the other was registered to Barrera’s residence.
Former Firefighter Pleads Guilty to Possession of Lewd Images
According to court documents, Barrera accessed the lewd images on his cellphone using the department’s network. Homeland Security Investigations agents discovered Barrera would use the department s network to access chat rooms that posted videos depicting child pornography.
During the course of the investigation, investigators discovered that two local IP addresses were registered to a “Ray Jones” were used to access the chat room.
One IP address was associated with one of the Odessa Fire Department s station and the other to the 36-year-old s home.
After seizing Barrera s phone, agents found several videos and images ‘depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit activity.

An Odessa firefighter who turned himself into authorities following a complaint against him for possession of child pornography has plead guilty in federal court Friday.
Jeremy Lee Barrera, 36, plead guilty to one count of possession of child pornography and admitted to not only possessing the material but also using his cell phone while on the Odessa Fire Rescue network to access an online chat room where videos were posted depicting child pornography.

Two arrested in connection to a murder

On Sunday morning around 12:30 a.m. Odessa Police Department and Odessa Fire Department responded to a stabbing victim at the 4300 block of North Dixie.
Joseph Grondahl, 31, a stabbed 35-year-old male and fled the scene.
Based on facts and circumstances, officials issued a murder warrant for Grondahl, and Natalee Lassiter, 38, was arrested for hindering apprehension.
The victim was transported to the hospital but was pronounced deceased later.
