The Regina Fire Department responded on Monday at 7:57 p.m. CST to a call on the 2300 block of Osler St. and arrived about four minutes later, according to Deputy Chief Gord Hewitt. Hewitt said there were three people in the house, but they were able to get out before firefighters arrived. Fire and smoke were coming from a second floor window when crews pulled up, Hewitt said, and the fire had already started extending to the ceiling.

When the fire team arrived, smoke and flames were radiating from the upper story, spreading towards the roof. Crews were able to get the fire under control within half an hour, but the building sustained extensive damage and is currently uninhabitable.

Newo Yotina Friendship Centre approved as safe consumption site Only the second site in the province. The Newo Yotina Friendship Centre, located on the corner of Osler Street and 11th Avenue in Regina, has been given preliminary approval to become a new temporary safe consumption site within the province in the coming weeks. As it currently stands, Prairie Harm Reduction (formerly Aids Saskatoon) is the only site in Saskatchewan for safe consumption. The site comes during an overdose epidemic in the province. According the Coroner’s Report for 2020 in Saskatchewan, there were around 170 confirmed drug toxicity deaths last year and up to around 350 suspected.
