Driver of stolen vehicle arrested after pursuit, Ocala police say

A driver of a stolen vehicle out of Gainesville was arrested after being stopped on a pursuit by officers from the Ocala Police Department, according to police.
After unsuccessful attempts to stop the vehicle using stop sticks, the vehicle entered I-75 northbound, where it tried to pursue away from members of the Ocala Police Department and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
The vehicle was ultimately stopped after a deputy used a PIT maneuver and the driver was taken to Marion County Jail, according to authorities.

Officer Jason Douglas was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in late February. Douglas has spent time in the hospital, and his wife has been unable to work. All proceeds will go toward the officer and his family, assisting with home and medical bills.

MARION COUNTY, Fla. - The Ocala Police Department helped stop a suspect accused of stealing a car out of Gainesville.
Officers responded to a stolen license plate and tried to stop the vehicle, but officials say the driver drove off and a chase began.
After several attempts to stop the stolen car with stop sticks, investigators say the car got on Interstate 75, northbound.

With the help of the Marion County Sheriff s Office, officials say the stolen vehicle was successfully stopped when one of Marion County s deputies used a pit maneuver.

We heard tires screech and an RN, one of the guests, pulled off her high heels and ran to the scene, Taylor Rafferty recalled on Friday.
Deputy Samantha Horne, who is Christopher Rafferty s zone partner, was maid of honor. She was among those who ran to the victim and helped stabilize him. I think (the reaction) was instinctive and none of us hesitated. It’s awesome (that) no matter how important the event or how much planning, Taylor and Christopher ran toward those needing help. It s what we do every day, Horne said.
