The RND report cites recent positive forecasts for the course of the Greek economy, as the restrictions of the pandemic are lifted. According to HSBC, the tourism sector could contribute 2 percentage points to growth this year, while Finance Minister Christos Staikouras expects GDP growth of 3.6% for the current year and 6.2% for 2022. The report also mentions the statement of Commissioner Margaret Vestager that Greece “could be the country with the highest growth rate in the Eurozone” in 2022, but also the assessment of the President of Fairfax, Prem Watsa, that “Greece offers fantastic investment opportunities and will exceed all expectations of financial markets and European institutions.�
German media network RND, in an article on Monday, reported on the forecasts predicting a rapid recovery of the Greek economy after the pandemic, mainly due to tourism and the European Union Recovery Plan.
The German media outlet cited recent good forecasts for the Greek economy’s performance once pandemic restrictions are lifted.
“The EU Recovery Plan for the coronavirus [pandemic] is an important developmental tool,” it said.
The German article explained that Greece expects 30.5 billion euros from the programme grants and low-interest loans by the end of 2026, which it is planning to use on climate protection and digitisation projects.

Hungary to Use EU Recovery Plan for Doctor’s Wage Increases
Hungary is planning to spend 300 billion forints (831 million EUR) of the European Union Recovery Plan on increasing the wages of doctors, according to the G7. This is almost the exact amount that the National Health Insurance Fund (NEAK) expected as the financial burden of the healthcare wage increase this year.
Family doctors, dentists, and their colleagues will also be receiving wage increases from the fund, but the largest increase will go to healthcare workers.
The opposition Párbeszéd party has called on the government to consult with local councils, professional organisations and civil groups on its post-pandemic recovery plan.
