REAL-LIFE stories of domestic abuse have led to a powerful drama and a concept album of songs. Isolation, an album by Bradford playwright and songwriter Peter Aveyard, is a follow-up to his radio play, Torrent, about a woman who escapes domestic abuse. The play, recorded by FreshAire Productions, was aired in 2020 with local actress Jennifer Kay playing Alice, who re-discovers her identity and breaks away from her abuser. Peter’s follow-up project is Isolation, a concept album of songs based on Alice’s story. Peter and writer/dramaturg Irene Lofthouse interviewed several women who told their often harrowing stories in the hope that sharing their experiences would help others reach out for help. The women s names were changed for the script. “Karen had been a talented performer, having appeared in musicals around West Yorkshire,” said Peter. “She was a lively bubbly character whose personality, due to her experience of domestic abuse, was reduced so much she became a
