US Senate set to support Good Friday Agreement in new resolution

Comments The US Senate is preparing to unveil a resolution that will support the Good Friday Agreement in Northern Ireland ahead of Taoiseach Micheál Martin s virtual meeting with President Joe Biden on St. Patrick s Day. The bipartisan resolution calls for the full implementation of the Good Friday Agreement and supports efforts to maintain peace on the island of Ireland. The document, which has been seen by the Irish Times, states that any trade agreement between the US and the UK should depend on whether the conditions of the Good Friday Agreement are upheld.  Read more The resolution additionally references the Northern Ireland Protocol agreed during the Brexit negotiations, noting that the protocol intends to protect the peace forged after the Good Friday Agreement in 1998.

Comments I m proud to say that I was a volunteer, in my younger days, for the late Robert F. Kennedy when he was campaigning for the United States Senate in 1964 from New York. There were about 10 of us from different counties in Ireland, all crazy young fellas dancing in the City Center, the Jaeger House, the Tower View Ballroom, and others.  Despite our youth and zest for life, RFK gave us a great interest in politics. Carmel Quinn: Irish entertainer passes away in New Jersey

Comments Irish singer and entertainer Carmel Quinn, who found fame when she came to America and appeared on Arthur Godfrey’s show in the 1950s, has died.   Quinn passed away at the age of 95 at her home in Leonia, New Jersey on March 6. Originally from Dublin, a biography note on her website says she began her singing career there with the Bobby Murphy Orchestra singing at small charity concerts and a few other jobs around the country.  Read more “Eventually, I came to America,” she wrote on the website. “It was the mid-fifties when I appeared on the Arthur Godfrey Talent Scouts radio show and won the contest. My prize was to then appear on the show for the next three days. I did, and I stayed on as a regular for six additional years.
