While Adolf Hitler focused his attention on defeating the Allied Forces during the Secord World War, his nephew William Patrick, who was born in Liverpool to an Irish mother, was signing up to the US Navy to fight against the Nazi leader.Â
William Patrick Hitler was born to Alois Hitler Jr. - Hitler s half-brother - and Dublin native Bridget Dowling in a house in Liverpool in 1911. Ironically, the house was later bombed by the Luftwaffe during the Battle of Britain at the start of the Second World War.Â

St. Patrick s Day in Ireland in 1959 was very different from the massive celebrations in the 21st century.
It is March 17, 1959. A nine-year-old girl is waiting for the Saint Patrick’s Day parade. Many others are waiting at the same corner. An icy wind blows up from the river. Her three brothers and three sisters are with her. The littlest one is in a go-cart. They left the baby at home.
The girl has her St. Patrick’s Day badge pinned onto her gabardine coat. She has a green bow in her short hair. They are all frozen in the cold. She pulls up her brothers’ knee socks. They are still in short trousers. The girl notices that most of the men have big bunches of shamrock pinned to their coats. There is no sign nor sound of the parade.
"We can fight for our country in the army and vote in elections, but we cannot commemorate the traditions of our heritage." Should the US lower the legal drinking age to be on par with the rest of the world?

You could even just walk up to the bar and hold your forefinger in the air, any barman worth his salt would know that you were asking for a pint of Guinness.

A group of documentary makers say that they can reveal what Irish rebel leader Robert Emmet really looked like.Â
Emmet led a disastrous rebellion against British rule in Ireland in 1803 which lasted just one day, and he was later hanged on Thomas Street in Dublin in September of the same year at the age of 25.Â
Contemporary images of Emmet are based on court sketches from his trial at Green Street courthouse in 1803. The side-profile sketches depict a prematurely balding man with a sharp nose and almost all portraits of Emmet have been based on the court sketch.Â
