Donn McClean on the British and Irish jumps scene ahead of the 2021 Punchestown Festival By Donn McClean 14:29 · SUN April 25, 2021 Donn McClean reflects on the current National Hunt scene in Ireland and Britain ahead of the five-day Punchestown Festival. Henry de Bromhead’s stable stars paraded at Tramore last Sunday: Honeysuckle, Put The Kettle On, Minella Indo, Minella Times, Balko Des Flos. The Champion Hurdle winner, the Champion Chase winner, the Gold Cup winner, the Grand National winner, the Grand National runner-up. It is not so long ago that, if Irish trainers as a collective had had that haul, it would have been quite incredible. For one trainer, it was unprecedented.

Tremendous win for de Bromhead and Blackmore in Grand National

Waterford, Ireland / WLR Apr 10, 2021 5:49 PM Waterford trainer Henry de Bromhead has pulled off a brilliant one two in the Grand National at Aintree. Minella Times, owned by JP McManus, won the flagship race with jockey Rachael Blackmore on board at odds of 11-1. It’s a fantastic feat for Blackmore as she becomes the first female jockey to win the world’s most famous steeplechase. Blackmore told ITV Racing: “I just cannot believe it. He was an absolutely sensational spin. “What Henry de Bromhead does with these horses, I don’t know! I’m so lucky to be riding them, I just cannot believe I’m after winning the Grand National. This is unbelievable.”
