Credit: via Facebook Fishing communities on both sides of the Irish Sea have marked the 20th anniversary of the sinking of a scallop dredger with the loss of seven lives off the Isle of Man. The Celtic League non-governmental organisation has also marked the deaths of skipper Andrew Mills (known as Craig), (29), his brother Robin Mills (33), their cousin David Mills (17), Martin Milligan (26), John Murphy (22), David Lyons (18) and Wesley Jolly (17). All seven men died when their dredger was caught in a storm off the Scottish coast on January 11th, 2000.

Offaly unites in prayer as little boy fights for his life Reporter: );   ); The town of Edenderry, as well as people from all over the world, have been praying over the last few days after a heartbreaking update on the health of little Daire McDonnell. The Edenderry one-year-old who was flown to the UK for specialist treatment for a rare bowel disease in October is now in a critical condition, according to his family. Daire was flown to Newcastle by the Irish Air Corps after being deemed a match for a potentially life-saving stem cell transplant. He is still in the UK receiving treatment. He was born with multiple atresia of the bowel. He is dependent on total parenteral nutrition (TPN), a form of feeding that bypasses the gastrointestinal tract.

Offaly member of Irish Air Corps receives prestigious Defence Forces Award Reporter: );   ); An Offaly Flight Sergeant has been recognised for his Selflessness at the Defence Forces Values Awards. Flight Sergeant Brian O’Keeffe, a member of the Irish Air Corps and from Walsh Island, was recognised for his selflessness at the Awards held in Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel on Wednesday, December 16. Over the last three years, the Defence Forces have recognised members within the organisation who have shown outstanding attributes enshrined in their values, which are Respect, Loyalty, Selflessness, Physical Courage, Moral Courage and Integrity. Offaly native Flight Sergeant Brian O’Keeffe was recognised for his Selflessness. His citation reads: “For the time devoted to the development, motivation and mentoring of young technicians and apprentices in the Flight Training School.”
