Mid-Prairie Boys Track Makes Way to Anamosa

The Mid-Prairie boys track and field team will be in Anamosa Tuesday for their next meet. The Hawks had both Drake and a meet at Newton last week. Cain Brown represented Mid-Prairie in Des Moines. The sophomore was fourth in the high jump competition, clearing 6’3″. As a team, the Golden Hawks last competed Friday at Newton where they placed fifth of 11 teams with 73 points as Thaddeus Shetler won the 1600 in 4:40.49. Other top finishes included Nathan Quinby runner-up in the 100, second for the 4×800 team, third place for Clarke Latcham in the 400 hurdles and third for the 4×400 team. Mid-Prairie is in Anamosa tonight with Central DeWitt, Easton Valley, Independence, Iowa City Liberty, Lisbon, Monticello, Mount Vernon, West Liberty and the Blue Raiders. Action starts tonight at 4:30 and continues into the evening in Anamosa.

Hawks Host Home Invitational

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls golf team welcomes nine other teams to the Kalona Golf Course Thursday for their annual 18-hole Golden Hawk Invitational. Mid-Prairie has been off since April 12th when they fell to the Tipton Tigers 238-248. Elliot Debler led the Hawks with her round of 60. For the season, Mid-Prairie is paced by Madi Davidson with a 60 average per nine holes. This is the Golden Hawks first 18-hole event of the season. Joining the Golden Hawks in Kalona today are River Valley Conference foes Durant, Iowa City Regina, Tipton, West Branch, West Liberty and Wilton along with Fairfield, Iowa City Liberty and Williamsburg. Action begins at 12:30 and continues into the afternoon and evening at the Kalona Golf Course.

Washington Boys Finish Third at Demon Relays

Plenty of track teams across Southeast Iowa congregated to Case Field last night for the annual Demon Relays and Washington showed out in front of the home crowd. The Demon boys placed third out of 10 teams with 128 points while Iowa City Liberty took home the team title with 147. Seven events belonged to the Demons with three relays taking the top spot and four different individuals enjoying gold. Elijah Morris ran away with the 400m crown (50.95), Lance Sobaski in the 3200m (9:55), Kael Adam in the discus (137’9’’), and Ethan Patterson in the high jump (5’10’’). First place relays included the 4x100m relay of Spencer Sotelo, Wyatt Stout, Jacob Miller, and Patterson (45.36), the 4x200m relay of Sam Ackerman, Reece Mayer, Stout, and Aidan Ulin (1:37), and the 4x400m of Patterson, Morris, Cameron Vongpanya, and Sobaski (3:34). Washington Track Hosts Demon Relays

The second home track meet for Washington will be tonight when the boys and girls host the annual Demon Relays.  Plenty of area schools will be making the trip including Mid-Prairie, Columbus Community, Highland, and WACO. Demon boys head coach Steve Roth always looks forward to this meet. “We always like this coed meet. It is senior night and we will dedicate the building that we built last year so there is some special things happening. We have a lot of area schools there and we have had this Demon Relays for about 20 years so it is a special meet.”
