U.S. Congresswoman Cindy Axne
As Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds recently signed a new state law making permits to carry a firearm optional in the state, one U.S. House member thinks gun control is going in the wrong direction.
In light of recent gun violence across the country, Congresswoman Cindy Axne talks about gun violence.
“We have already seen kindergartners slain at the hands of an attacker. We can’t go a week without mass shootings. We lose 100 people a day in this country to gun violence. I can’t believe that we are still at a place where we are not putting appropriate rules on the books.”
(Growth Energy/Ethanol Producer Magazine) … Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor kicked off the event with a speech that framed the future of biofuels by addressing three key priorities to drive biofuel demand: building out access to higher blends nationwide, positioning biofuels as a climate solution in policy discussions, and expanding consumer awareness of biofuel, as well as highlighting how Growth Energy is working with the new Biden Administration to make these a priority.
“Our industry was built by individuals who know what it means to control their own destiny – to be the architects of their own fate. Over this last year, we have seen how resilient this community can be in the face of extraordinary adversity. Now, we’re going to show the world what this industry can do when the fight is no longer just about survival, but about framing a better, stronger, low-carbon future fueled by homegrown energy,” Skor said in her opening remarks.
President Biden announces updates on national vaccination program (4.5 minutes)
Almost unbelievably, the Iowa legislature passed a bill that will force businesses to not require nor ask for Covid-19 vaccination documentation from customers. Thus they create a situation that is dangerous for business owners, customers and the public in general.
Why did they do this? I guess it is based on some really goofy idea that an infected person who could be killing their fellow citizens has more rights to do whatever they want than our citizens have rights to remain safe. In one of the most boneheaded, brain dead quotes I have ever seen, we have Republican Senator Jake Chapman, R-Adel stating:
May 6, 2021
IARN New Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Michael Regan visited with biofuel leaders and farmers in Iowa on Tuesday.
Making his first trip since being sworn into office, Regan took a tour of the Lincolnway Energy ethanol plant near Nevada with U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack. Regan also led a roundtable discussion with Iowa farmers and biofuel producers.
According to Monte Shaw – executive director of the Iowa Renewable Fuels Assocation – Regan heard a ‘loud and clear’ message that biofuels are more than a transition fuel and are the net-carbon-negative fuel of the future.
“He made clear that he wants us to know that Ag and biofuels have a seat at the table,” said Shaw. “He wants to learn more, listen and make sure that they maximize the role we can play. I think he came across very sincere. From talking to other attendees, I think they appreciated him coming. We look forward to working with him.”
DES MOINES, Iowa (KWWL)- The 2021 Iowa Legislative session is officially headed into overtime. The scheduled 110-day legislative session ended on Friday, but both chambers will be in session next week, with many items still needing to be ironed out.
Lawmakers can continue to stay in session past day 110, though they will not be paid.
State lawmakers still have a lot of work to do to pass the $8 billion budget for 2022. There are also disagreements between the two chambers on tax cuts.
Closed-door negotiations and conversations between House and Senate Republicans are ongoing. We are having conversations with the Senate to try to figure out where the middle ground is on everything, whether it s budget policy, tax policy, and other pieces of policy in general that are out there, House Speaker Pat Grassley, R-New Hartford said.
