Iowa College Access Network receives $50K national grant to bolster FAFSA completion Friday, April 23, 2021 2:46 PM
Iowa College Access Network (ICAN) has received a $50,000 competitive grant that will enable the nonprofit to support high school students across the state in preparing to enroll in college or other postsecondary training programs. Iowa is one of only 11 states to be awarded one of the competitive grants, for which more than 120 organizations had applied. The national grant was made through the National College Attainment Network, with funding provided by the Kresge Foundation’s Education Program. “It has been a difficult year with many students delaying decisions and putting off steps in the process that will help them succeed after high school,” Rob Miller, president of ICAN, said in a news release. “In a normal year, 78% of Iowa high school seniors go on to college and 60% of those seniors file a FAFSA form. SIBLEY, Iowa More than two dozen organizations, including several communities, were awarded grants in December by the Community Foundation of Osceola County.
The foundation was able to distribute $104,429.62 to 29 different recipients, though a traditional grant ceremony was postponed due to the ongoing pandemic. Instead, there is hope for a celebration this summer.
Stephanie Neppl, executive director of the Osceola County Economic Development Commission, said the foundation was able to fully fund 23 applications, and partially fund another six.
