SULPHUR, La. (KPLC) - Southwest Louisiana will have a pair of chances to bring home a state title this season as Barbe High School and Iowa High School each advanced to the state title game in their respective classes. Also in play was Rosepine, but the Lady Eagles would drop a heartbreaker in extra innings, 1-0.
BARBE 6, PINEVILLE 3
The Lady Bucs return to Class 5A’s biggest stage for the second time in as many tries after their downed No. 7 Pineville, 6-3. Following a 2-0 lead in the first inning, the Lady Bucs would give up a run in three consecutive innings to Pineville to trail 3-2 in the fourth. Nyjah Fontenot’s two-RBI single in the bottom of the inning would give Barbe the lead again for good.

Strength is a big part of a football program, and a man who has a lot of experience in that department has returned to Arkansas State as a part of head coach Butch Jones’ staff in Jonesboro. Jeff Jones is the Red Wolves’ new Assistant Athletics Director for Athletics Performance, coming back to A-State where he was the top assistant in the strength and conditioning department in 2012. He’s also worked at Boise State, Auburn, Luther College, Appalachian State, and Fairfield, Iowa High School. He joined “The Drive with Brad Bobo” Monday afternoon to give us a look at his career, and his plans for the Red Wolves in 2021.

Forest City was last at the state tournament in 2018, when Shayne Hoeft finished 16th overall.
The Indians are heading back to the state tournament after Kali Johnson, Haley Wood, Chiara Thompson, and Tori Warren finished first through fourth individually, respectively. The state qualifying meet was held in LeMars yesterday.
Last year the Forest City boys competed at state and finished 6th overall. Chiara Thompson’s brother, Connor, finished 5th in the state. Chiara and teammate Kali Johnson were both named to all-district teams.
This year, Johnson and Thompson, along with Wood and Warren, will all have their chance to compete for an individual title, and they, along with two other bowlers, will help the Indians compete for a team title.
Feb. 15—MARION — Expect anything different? Kevin Kretz didn't just wrap up his high school swimming career in style, winning two more individual medals on Saturday at the Iowa High School boys state swimming meet, but did so in record fashion. Kretz lowered his own school record in the 50 freestyle, earning a medal in the race for the second straight year after placing sixth on Saturday in .
It’s conference Saturday for Iowa High School Wrestling teams and a few area squads will travel to Letts for the Southeast Iowa Super Conference meet.
Columbus Community, Highland, and WACO are area teams that will be competing for a conference title. The Wildcats are riding high after sweeping a quadrangular at L&M on Thursday. Lane Scorpil was the headliner winning both of his matches at 120 lbs by a pin in 15 seconds and 1:05. The junior has recorded a 35-1 record and should compete for a conference title. Chance Malone has been dominant at 285 lbs with a 30-3 mark.
Highland also competed in Thursday’s quad and went 2-1 in duals with their only loss coming to the Wildcats. Easton Schlabaugh showed no mercy in his three matches winning by a 21-0 technical fall, 16-1 tech fall, and a 9-4 decision at 113 lbs. The sophomore is 30-4 on the campaign and Bryce Thompson is 24-3 at 120 lbs.
