Again, five soldiers feared killed in fresh Rivers attack

Views: 230 Unknown gunmen have again killed about five soldiers in Omelema community, Abia Local Government Area of Rivers State. It was gathered that the gunmen came from a nearby river, shot sporadically and went straight to a lodge where the soldiers were camped and opened fire, killing two on the spot at about 11am on Monday. The latest attack is coming barely 48 hours after gunmen suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra attacked some security checks killing eight operatives.   The spokesman of the 6 Division, Nigeria Army Port Harcourt, Major Charles Ekeocha was yet to comment on the incident as he was not answering his calls at the time of filing this report.

On Wednesday, police received a message about a partially buried body on the beach. After registering a case of suspicious death, they began investigating. The police identified the deceased as Appunu alias Selvakumar, 25, of Thazhankuppam. He and his friends had assaulted one Lokesh, of Ennore, a few days ago as the former refused to loan him a drilling machine. On the night of April 15, when Appunu and his friends were drinking on the beach, he reportedly told them that he was planning to surrender in connection with the assault.
