CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – Charlottesville-based “Blue Ridge Outdoors” magazine has named Lake Monticello resident Ida Swenson as one of three people its 62,000 readers have chosen as “Best in the Blue Ridge Environmentalist”. She’s been a Virginia Master Naturalist for 15 years and has lived at the Lake since 2003.
Among the reasons the magazine lists her for the honor is the over 5000 hours she has volunteered for activities such as stream invertebrate research, invasive plant removal, water quality assessment, and environmental education for all age groups. She has worked get Lake Monticello “National Wildlife Federation” certification, but has been opposed by Lake Monticello Owners’ Association.
