The Idaho County Sheriff’s Office says a Riggins family who failed to return home Sunday from a sledding trip has been located safe.
According to the sheriff’s office, 32-year-old Everett Vannatta and 37-year-old April Sorrell and four juveniles went sledding Sunday up Allison Creek off of the Big Salmon Road.
A family member contacted authorities when the group didn’t return home Sunday evening.
An Idaho County deputy searched the Allison Creek area Sunday but was able to make it only 3 miles up the road before having to turn around because of deep snow.
An Idaho County Search and Rescue team was dispatched to the area, but the sheriff’s office says after being stranded overnight the family made it out on their own and called in from Riggins Monday morning. (Lewiston Tribune)
