According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Memorial Day is to honor military personnel who died in the service of their country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle. A number of events around the Treasure Valley help us remember and honor the sacrifices made by our veterans.
The Idaho State Veterans Cemetery has a very special event on Saturday at 9am. They will be unveiling a new bronze statue of two life sized veterans titled I ve Got Your Back . The statues was primarily created by Idaho artist Benjamin Victor, with help from others. Gov. Brad Little, former Gov. Dirk Kempthorne and other dignitaries will speak at the unveiling. Then on Monday at 10am at The Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, flags will be placed throughout the cemetery by the Young Marines. There will also be flyovers by the Idaho Air National Guard s 124th Fighter Wing. Then at 11:11am A Warhawk Air Museum Warbird flight will take place followed by a TAPS

Gov. Brad Little, former Gov. Dirk Kempthorne and other dignitaries to host a Memorial Day observance event and unveil a statue sculpted for the Idaho Veterans Cemetery by world-renowned Idaho artist Benjamin Victor.
The life-size statue features two U.S. Armed Forces service members depicting reverence, respect and resolve. In addition to the unveiling, the event will include an invocation by a military chaplain, remarks by dignitaries, an Idaho National Guard color guard, a rifle party, a bugler and more.

BOISE, Idaho â Service members start Memorial Day remembrances early, honoring those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. The annual Memorial Day Dedication ceremony at Gowen Field drew in a crowd of service members, each with their own reason for attending.
Others involved in the ceremony say the holiday hits close to home. Joining the Idaho National Guard Color Guard, the Idaho Military Museum and the 25th Army Band, veterans also came from the Idaho State Veterans Home in Boise. No matter who you are or what you do, whether you serve or you don t serve, be involved in your community, said Kelly Bongiovi, Idaho State Command Chief. Get out there and just enjoy the weekend and be able to remember the people that have actually fought for this country.
