Microsoft released Edge 91 with new features and improvements
Following Google, which yesterday began distributing a new version of its proprietary Chrome browser, Microsoft developers have also presented an update for their browser. Edge 91 introduces performance-enhancing features, new skins, and various bug fixes. Microsoft claims Edge 91 is the fastest browser for Windows.
The updated browser has a “Sleeping tabs” mode, after activating which inactive tabs will be unloaded from memory to reduce the amount of resources consumed. In the browser settings, you can specify after how many hours an unused tab can be considered inactive. According to Microsoft, this approach can reduce application memory consumption by up to 82%. In addition to this, the Launch Booster feature is also now available, which allows some Edge processes to start in the background when the operating system boots. This approach can significantly speed up the launch of the browser.
Microsoft says Edge will soon be the most powerful browser for Windows 10
During Build 2021 today, Microsoft announced that its Edge browser will be the fastest browser for Windows 10 with an update scheduled for this week. Developers are reportedly adding features such as Sleep Tabs and Launch Booster to Edge 91.
The Sleeping Tabs feature solves one of the main problems of many browsers. It allows you to increase browser performance by freeing system resources allocated to unused tabs; including putting ads on inactive tabs to sleep. Microsoft claims that the implementation of “Sleeping Tabs” will help reduce the memory consumption of the Edge browser by 82%.
