A ransomware attack continued to plague Scripps Health on May 3, creating confusion for patients and their families, especially those who were scheduled for appointments this week.
After fighting to regain control of its systems since the incident occurred May 1, Scripps said two days later that it still had not resolved the technical terrorism that put its patient records, scheduling and other critical systems offline, forcing medical personnel in hospitals and other facilities to revert to paper for the time being.
EL CAJON (KUSI) – El Cajon residents are still fighting the placement of two sexually violent predators in the Mount Helix neighborhood of El Cajon.
Carl DeMaio, Chairman of Reform California and AM 600 KOGO Radio Host, joined KUSI’s Elizabeth Alvarez on Good Morning San Diego to discuss his ongoing push to remove the two SVPs from being placed in the neighborhood.
In discussion with Alvarez, DeMaio noted his previous work with El Cajon’s City Councilmembers to shut down an El Cajon household that sheltered 10 sexually violent predators.
Two registered SVPs, Douglas Badger and Merle Wakefield, are slated to live together in a Mount Helix house, which law enforcement has said they are going to monitor.
The community is fighting back, including a lawsuit filed against the county.
Chelsea King’s legacy lives on through her family’s efforts to stop sexually violent predators.
A big name backing the fight of this community is founder of Chelsea’s Light Foundation and Protect the Joy, Brent King, father of Chelsea King.
Chelsea King was a teenager in 2010 when a repeat offender sexually assaulted and murdered her while she was on a run in a public park.
The predator had attacked other children before his attack on Chelsea.
Chelsea’s family turned their grief into vigilant compassion, and now, Brent King has spoken out against two sexually violent predators slated to be housed in a Mount Helix community.
EL CAJON (KUSI) – Community members fighting the placement of SVPs in their Mount Helix neighborhood have been encountering difficulties in obtaining files on one of the two predators, Merle Wakefield.
Supervisor Joel Anderson is expected to have a press conference April 28 at 10 a.m., in which he will outline the disproportionate placing of sexual offenders and SVPs in East County.
Sarah Thompson, who lives across the street from the house where the SVPs are slated to be placed, joined KUSI’s Ginger Jeffries on Good Evening San Diego to discuss updates on their fight to keep the SVPs from being placed in their neighborhood.
Law enforcement has stated that the SVPs are going to be monitored, making their placement safe.
But Carl DeMaio, former San Diego Councilmember, Chairman of Reform California, and AM 600 KOGO Radio Host, disagrees, stating that he doesn’t feel assured that law enforcement will be monitoring the predators close enough to keep neighbors safe.
DeMaio joined KUSI’s Ginger Jeffries on Good Evening San Diego to discuss the potential placement of the SVPs.
Those feeling convicted enough can email sdsafe@sdsheriff.org with their opinion on the potential placements.
