Toronto firefighter charged with careless driving while on emergency call

Published Friday, April 23, 2021 2:43PM EDT Toronto police say a firefighter has been charged in a crash that happened on the way to an emergency. Police say the collision took place at Lawrence Avenue East and Mount Pleasant Road on April 4. Investigators allege a fire truck was responding to a fire call with its lights and sirens on. They say the fire truck did not stop before turning right to go east in the westbound lanes of Lawrence Avenue, and struck two poles at the intersection. Police say one firefighter was taken to hospital with minor injuries. No members of the public were hurt.

Carlisle mum calls police after finding drugs found in daughter s bedroom

A MUM alerted police and asked her 17-year-old daughter to leave home after finding £2,500 worth of illegal drugs while cleaning her bedroom. It emerged Yasmine Sbita, now aged 19, was asked to look after the stash of ecstasy by a male who was also arrested by police. And Carlisle Crown Court heard that male had since been sentenced for drug-dealing activity after evidence was found on his mobile phone. Prosecutor Rob Wyn Jones described the discovery of Sbita’s illegal involvement, on October 9, 2019, as she was sentenced having admitted possessing class A MDMA (ecstasy) with intent to supply. “The defendant’s mother was cleaning her daughter’s bedroom at an address in Carlisle, and found underneath a bed what she believed to be drugs. It turns out it was,” said Mr Wyn Jones.

By Amy Farnworth Last updated: Stuart Newton was found in a flat in Oswaldtwistle on Thursday February 13 2020, but died in hospital the following day. A 30-year-old man, Nathan Williams now 31, was charged with his murder and is standing trial at Preston Crown Court. Police were called to the property, in Worsley Court, in the early hours of the morning, and found Mr Newton with serious head injuries He was taken to Royal Preston Hospital but died from his injuries on Friday February 14. Williams, 30, of Mount Pleasant Road, Oswaldtwistle, denies killing Mr Newton. Last week, we heard how Mr Newton was kicked and stamped on by Williams after a drink and drug-fuelled argument in which the victim had confused Williams with his son-in-law, Carl McMahon.
