Uinta Highline Trail: Quick and Dirty Guide - SectionHiker: Backpacking Gear Guides and Hiking FAQs

Uinta Highline Trail: Quick and Dirty Guide The Uinta Highline Trail is a 104-mile trail that runs along the Uinta Mountain Range in Utah’s Ashley National Forest and Wasatch-Cache National Forest. The trail is noted for its expansive views and varied terrain, which includes lodgepole forest, glacial valleys, alpine lakes, and high mountain passes. The trail has an average elevation of 10,700′; it crosses eight mountain passes that are over 11,000′, requiring 16,700′ of elevation gain end-to-end. The trail’s highpoint is Kings Peak at 13,528′. The Uinta Mountains uniquely run east/west, whereas most other ranges in the Rockies run north/south. The Highline Trail begins in a forest consisting primarily of lodgepole pine and opens sometimes into big meadows. In each of the eight basins along the trail, you will be going in and out of the forest, occasionally passing lakes.

Attempts to rename Colorado s Gore Range hits opposition in Grand

265 Shares If getting deep into the wilderness heart of the Gore Range is your goal, there are few better objectives than the range’s highpoint, Mount Powell. (Provided by Ben Conners) Grand commissioners briefly considered a proposal from Summit County commissioners that would rename the Gore Range to the Nuchu Range. The 75-mile-long range spans across Grand, Routt, Eagle and Summit counties. Commissioner Merrit Linke made it clear he does not support the effort, and he doesn’t think it’s worth the board’s time to even discuss it. “I think that it’s trying to change history from 150 years ago,” Linke said. “I get it, that Mr. Gore 150 years ago in 1857 or whatever it was wasn’t maybe by today’s standards somebody that we would look up to in terms of what he did.
