Talea Margaret Anne Szabo, 24, blew 0.190 after police saw she had parked on the median strip at the intersection of Maroochydore Road and Pike Street at Kunda Park about 11.30pm on May 22. She was fined $1000, disqualified from driving for nine months and a conviction was recorded. Magistrate Matthew McLaughlin said if Szabo hadn t shown to the court a high level of remorse, having completed the drink driving program and providing glowing character references, she would have been looking at a higher disqualification period.

Radical plan to cap rent prices

A Queensland politician has introduced a radical bill to combat the state’s rental crisis. The proposed laws would cap rent increases to once every two years and by no more than inflation per year, including if there is a period for which the property is not rented or if current tenants move out and new tenants enter on a new lease. Member for South Brisbane Amy MacMahon said the Palaszczuk government had dragged their feet on rental reforms and urgent action was needed to protect desperate renters.
