Undersheriff Kelly Martinez has announced plans to run for San Diego County sheriff, seeking to replace Sheriff Bill Gore, who last week said he would not be seeking another term.
Martinez, 58, has worked for the Sheriff’s Department for 36 years and in February was named the department’s undersheriff, becoming second in command in the agency. She is the first woman to hold that post.
“Public safety is my highest priority,” she said in a statement. “As Sheriff, San Diego County residents can trust that I will put the safety of our communities first. I will ensure fair policing for all.”

A HIGH school has taken to social media following growing concerns that parents are buying their children the wrong tie for next term. Pupils starting Mount Carmel High, Accrington, in September will be required to wear a yellow tie with green accents along with a star and stripe design. However, the school has been informed that some parents and guardians have been recently sold a blue Year 7 tie from nearby Whittaker s Schoolwear, which is incorrect. A spokesperson for the school said: Pupils starting Year 7 in September will wear a tie with bright green stripes and stars, this will be your tie until you leave in Year 11.
