Mt Ashland hosts high school snowboarders in Boarder-X competition - KOBI-TV NBC5 / KOTI-TV NBC2

The Ashland High School snowboard team raced against each other. It has 34 snowboarders from Ashland and two from Phoenix High School. Ashland High School races in the Southern League, which is one of four leagues in the Oregon Interscholastic Snowboard Association, or O.I.S.A. With COVID regulations and restrictions canceling most of the athletes races, this was a chance to get out and stay fresh. “We have a ton of straight-A students on the team, but we also have kids who only keep their grades up so they can be on the snowboard team and I think a lot of them probably wouldn’t have stuck around for Zoom school if it wasn’t for being able to come up here to the mountain and get coached and be able to ride around with friends,” Team President and Advisor, Lance Areyeff, said.

ASHLAND, Ore. Mount Ashland Ski Area is getting some national attention after featured in a magazine. The quarterly magazine “Freeskier,” based out of Colorado, contacted General Manager, Hiram Towle, just a couple months ago. Towle said he is always excited to get national attention. He said it helps attract visitors from out of the area and experience what the ski area has to offer. “We are not a destination ski resort, we’re just a ski area that does appreciate when people come here, they find us, they realize that our terrain is spectacular, we’re affordable, we’ve got an amazing vibe, good for families and pretty much all of that,” Towle said.

Mt Ashland Ski Area opens to sold out weekend for the public - KOBI-TV NBC5 / KOTI-TV NBC2

ASHLAND, Ore. Mount Ashland Ski Area opened up to the public for the first time this season on Saturday. Skiers and boarders snagged up all 400 tickets available on the sold out slopes for both Saturday and Sunday. COVID regulations forced the area to make other changes like only selling tickets online and more distance between people near the lifts. Also, with the lodge closed to the public, which means no restaurant, people grilled and tailgated in the parking lot. General Manager, Hiram Towle, said the community bought 4,000 season passes, above their annual average, which he said proves how anxious people are to get out of their homes and be active.
