New Mexico man arrested after kids tell bus driver mom in danger

Associated Press View Comments LAS CRUCES, N.M. – A New Mexico man was arrested and suspected of domestic violence after his girlfriend asked her children to give their school bus driver a note saying she was in danger, police said Tuesday. The bus driver called 911 after he was handed the note Friday morning, and police found the woman with multiple cuts, bruises and scrapes “consistent with her claims of physical abuse,” a police statement said. Police later located Erik Alvarado, 40, and he was arrested on suspicion of three counts of aggravated battery against a household member – two for suffocation and one for strangulation, the statement said. Alvarado also faces misdemeanor counts of battery against a household member and deprivation of property.

Man Arrested After Kids Gave Bus Driver Note Saying Their Mom Was In Danger

By Bill Galluccio Apr 28, 2021 The Las Cruces Police Department said the woman, who was not identified, suffered through a night of brutal beatings at the hands of her boyfriend, 40-year-old  Erik Alvarado, last Thursday (April 22). The assault took place in the presence of the woman s toddler and two school-age children. Officials said that Alvarado allegedly took away her cellphone to prevent her from calling for help. The next morning, she wrote a note about the abuse and gave it to her two kids, instructing them to hand it over to their bus driver. When the bus driver read the note, they immediately called 911. When officers went to check on the woman, she had multiple cuts, bruises, and abrasions consistent with her claims of physical abuse,  the department said.

View Comments LAS CRUCES - A Las Cruces man accused of battering his girlfriend who later gave her children a note to give to a school bus driver saying she was in danger  has been granted conditions of release from jail while awaiting trial on felony charges. The Third Judicial District Attorney s Office reports Erik Alvarado was given a $5,000 secured bond Thursday, April 29, by District Court Judge Richard Jacquez. Alvarado was still in jail, according to jail records, as of noon Thursday. Alvarado, 40, is charged with three third-degree felony counts of aggravated battery against a household member and misdemeanor counts of battery against a household member and deprivation of property.
