With their final pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Texans chose Arizona defensive tackle Roy Lopez in the sixth round at 195th overall.
A nose tackle last season, he tallied 18 tackles, four tackles for loss and a sack in five games with the Wildcats. I m someone that s humble, hungry, coming to compete and work, and just try to bring out the best in myself and my teammates and my coaches, Lopez said. I ll be putting in extra time and just compete to win some games.
Lopez began his collegiate career at New Mexico State, where he played all across the defensive front from 2016 through 2019. He started 32 games with the Aggies, and transferred to Arizona for the 2020 campaign.

The Houston Texans will be on the 2021 NFL Draft clock two weeks from today (Friday April 16th, 2021). It ll be tough to see the Texans have to wait until pick No. 67 but then it s on like Donkey Kong. Eight picks over the next 166 picks and that rookie group will go down in history as new General Manager Nick Caserio s inaugural draft class.
People have asked me or tried to put me on the spot about the lack of a first or second round pick. My response has always been The best quarterback to ever play this game was drafted at No. 199 in the sixth round. Whereas future Hall of Famer Tom Brady is the exception to the rule, rounds three through seven, and beyond, can provide ample value for any football team, including this organization. Third round picks and beyond have made significant contributions to the Texans roster over the years such that you can fill out an entire offense/defense/special teams roster of those round three and beyond picks. The Miami Dolphins search for a new offensive coordinator continues as the divisional round of the playoffs arrives, but the list of identified candidates continues to dwindle.
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterbacks coach Matt Canada was one of those candidates, and he even reportedly interviewed for the position, but word came Saturday that he was instead going to be promoted to offensive coordinator by the Steelers.
We suggested a few days ago this was the most likely scenario for Canada, who is very highly regarded, because of the Steelers long-standing practice of promoting from within instead of hiring outside the organization.

He formally interviewed for the job for the first time on Monday.
If he doesn t land an opening during this hiring cycle, it seems like the 44-year-old s still got a solid shot of grabbing a head coaching gig within the next offseason or two.
Let s take a look now at the odds of him being hired to replace Matt Patricia as Detroit head man.
Campbell has three big things going for him when it comes to his chances of being named the successor to Patricia: he played for the Lions from 2006-08, he has head coaching experience (he served as the Miami Dolphins interim head man in 2015) and he s currently the right-hand man to New Orleans Super Bowl-winning head coach Sean Payton.
