Sent the 2-5 favourite, Cusdmagicdragon grabbed the lead early and opened four lengths on pylon-starter Rockin Mystery to a :28.1 opening quarter. Driver Scott Knight rationed the speed of charge through middle fractions of :58.4 and 1:27.2, where Intrigued Again took his shot and rolled first over from last. However Cusdmagicdragon scooted away with ease off the final turn, strolling to a three-and-three-quarter lengths win over Intrigued Again in a 1:56.3 mile. Redneck Jim took third.

Up the backstretch, Intrigued Again (Tony Kerwood) angled first-over from last and advanced all the way into second over a tiring Rockin Mystery at the 1:24.3 three-quarter station.
